Tegalalang Rice Terrace Ubud Bali

Tegalalang Rice Terrace in Ubud (Bali)

Bali is known for its lush, green rice terraces.

I had seen pictures before I visited, and however impressive they look online, they are a hundred times more impressive in person.

If you’re heading to Ubud anytime soon, the Tegalalang Rice Terrace is something you can’t skip out on. Seriously.

It was one of the highlights of my trip, and it really blew me away.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Tegalalang Rice Terrace in Ubud.

When to go to the Tegalalang Rice Terrace

The rice terraces in Bali are stunning pretty much all year round.

October to March is said to be the best time to visit the rice terraces, but my husband and I had gone in June, and they were absolutely perfect.

Also, if you want to avoid the crowds, head over there early in the morning. We got there at around 8am and we had the entire rice field to ourselves, which is ideal for taking pictures.

How to get there

If you’re comfortable riding a motorbike in a foreign country, then that it what I recommend.

It’s the easiest and most convenient way to get to the Tegalalang Rice Terrace. And the earlier you go, the less people there will be on the road.

It took us about 20 minutes to get there from our hotel located in central Ubud.

We parked our motorbike on the side of the road right in front of the rice terrace and began our journey through the greenery.

You can also take a taxi if you’re not comfortable riding a motorbike. Totally up to you.

Quick tips before you go

Ok, here’s where my personal failures and experiences become useful for other travelers.

  1. Don’t wear flip-flops unless you want your feet to be completely covered in mud.
  2. Don’t wear flip-flops unless you want to slip and fall into the mud.
  3. Don’t wear flip-flops unless you like making bad decisions.

I’m not sure what I was thinking when I wore my flip-flops the morning we were visiting the Tegalalang Rice Terrace. I guess I wasn’t thinking.

I slipped on many occasions and my feet were unrecognizable once we left.

There are muddy rocks everywhere so it’s actually quite dangerous not to wear your running or hiking shoes. Trust me on this one.

Other than that don’t forget your camera, take lots of pictures and enjoy the scenery!
